Three-dimensional wooden theatre puppets in two main styles: cepak and purwa

• In wayang golek purwa performances, the Hindu sagas Ramayana and Mahabharata are narrated. This form is most common in West Java, Indonesia.
• The wayang golek cepak style is best preserved in the area around Cirebon, Indramayu and Tegal (Java, Indonesia). The puppets tell the history of Javanese kingdoms, the story of Prince Panji, the Menak cycle or local legends.
