Wayang golek puppet: Sekar Wangi
Sekar Wangi is a name that appears in various Javanese and Sundanese wayang stories as a noble female figure (Dewi). The name literally means ‘fragrant flower’ (sekar = flower, wangi = fragrance), symbolising beauty, gentleness and purity. Sekar Wangi is not a fixed main character like Arjuna or Semar, but a regional name that often symbolises ideal feminine nobility in wayang stories.
Beautiful old cepak puppet from Brebes (Java, Indonesia), made in the early 1980s
